An original production cel and background from the Disney Studios animated classic "Bambi" (1942). “I'm thumpin' That's why they call me Thumper.” As Bambi's closet friend, Thumper teaches the young Prince the ways of the forest, including how to walk and talk. Featuring an adorable image of Thumper listening keenly with his long ears, the hand-painted cel and background were created at the studio and used during the animation process. The cel itself was originally set up by the studio for the Courvoisier Galleries with the cel trimmed to image from an actual frame of animation that was photographed and appears in the film. The cel has since been paired paired with a hand-painted background that also is an actual frame of animation that was photographed and appears in the film. Measuring 10.25"x11.75" overall, with the trimmed character image measuring 3.25"x3.25" and adhered to a 10.5"x12.25" cel, the piece is in very good condition with minimal discoloration, pinholes, production-related tape around the background's registration holes, adhesive residue in the margins, handwritten notations, and a reddish stain to the reverse of the background. The cel appears to have been restored by a previous owner prior to be applied to the new cel, as most Courvoisier pieces will show more rippling and paint wear than what is present in this cel. Also included is the original Courvoisier Galleries label of authenticity that was distributed with the cel.
