A rare model cel and drawing from the Walt Disney Studios animated film “Pinocchio” (1940). Featuring imagery for the early design concepts of an African marionette, the art was created at the studio and used during the animation process. The early development of the “I’ve Got No Strings” sequence included designs for additional marionettes from various world regions, but many were cut from the animation of the film, including this African marionette. The cel measures 9.75”x12” overall with a 5”x2.75” image. The drawings are about 5”x6.5” each and are trimmed and applied to a piece of 10”x10” animation paper. Both pieces are in very good condition with minor yellowing discoloration to celluloid with notable rippling throughout and the paint likely having been restored.
